What is Juniper Project?

Juniper Project was established in 2013 by choreographer Alexis Southall as a performance project for the international dance festival Infusion Emporium. The group brings together dancers from across the UK and Europe to develop group choreographies and performance pieces.

The vision for the group is to create community within the fusion bellydance scene, and to provide opportunities to not only work collaboratively with other artists, but also for dancers to work under the professional direction of an internationally renowned teacher and choreographer.

Each year the level of interest in participating in Juniper Project grows and expands across Europe. We create innovative fusion dance pieces, heavily influenced by bellydance, jazz, street, and other forms of dance.

The aim is to strengthen the technical and theoretical knowledge of the dancers, develop a network of future collaborators, expand repertoires, and create deeper connections within the fusion bellydance scene.

What is Juniper Collective?

Juniper Collective was established in 2014 as a way to create advanced level group performance opportunities for talented dancers that are usually working as soloists. The group brings together dancers from across the UK and Europe to develop group choreographies and performance pieces.

Dancers in the Collective are specially selected for their individual strengths as performers, and many have performed both in Juniper Project and the Collective.

We create innovative fusion dance pieces, heavily influenced by bellydance, jazz, street and other forms of dance.

The Collective have performed at events such as International Dance Festival Birmingham (UK), Tribal Passion (DE), Tribal Fest (USA), Rockin’ Away the Cold (DE), Tribal Umrah (IT), Tribal Remix (UK), and Infusion Emporium (UK).

Testimonials

“Alexis is an incredible director and choreographer and all the dancers absolutely killed it, the whole process was seamless and the end result is just amazing” – Lide Vinas (2019)

“What a dream it was to dance with such professional dancers. It was a true achievement for me to be part of Alexis Southall’s Juniper Project. Such a creative and humble teacher. As a dancer/ performer most of the time I am riddled with insecurity and the fear of not being good enough to get on stage and dance. But this performance left me feeling amazing and all warm inside. I can’t wait to dance with these amazing women in the future”. – Louise Vella (2019)

“A dream come true for me, my first ever Juniper Project performance at Infusion Emporium festival! Love to wonderful Alexis Southall for choreographing this gem and mentoring us so wonderfully, and of course to my fellow performers, I made some really special connections with you all”. – Gabi Ekins (2019)
